Georgian Downs Race Weekend

Action Packed Weekend for Karkoulas Sisters Racing at Georgian Downs

Oakwood, ON (February 1, 2016) – The Royal Distributing Cup National Snowcross Race at Georgian Downs in Barrie, ON marked the second race weekend for Karkoulas Sisters Racing (KSR) fans, racers and partners.

The windy weather on Saturday morning seemed to blow Zoe (age 6) right off her No. 502 Polaris Indy 120 in a few heats and feature races.  Even after bouncing off and rolling her sled, she impressed fans by quickly flipping her sled back in the upright position. Unfortunately, the tether pulled out so she was unable to re-start her own sled which resulted in her dropping back from top three in one heat.  In the end, she pulled off an impressive third place finish in the final Stock 1 and secured a third place finish in her second heat of Stock 2.

On Sunday, Zoe’s goal was to stay on her sled and the team is happy to report she achieved this goal.  Zoe finished all her heats and qualifiers in top five positions and was on the podium in both of her classes after securing a fifth place finish in Stock 1 and an impressive second in Stock 2.

Dakota (age 9) continues to get accustomed to riding a full size sled, the No. 501 Ski-Doo MXZ 600 Sport. In her Novice A heats, she easily made front row finals with second to fourth place qualifiers.  The finals saw her placing seventh and eighth.  Saturday marked Dakota’s first podium finish with a third overall in the Transition Girls class.

Brooklyn (age 11) was excited on Saturday to get her second race weekend started. She raced well in all her categories, but the highlight of her day was definitely taking the win in Transition Girls class.  She battled the wet, rough and sloppy track conditions Sunday on her No. 500 Ski-Doo 600RS with a goal of improving her 13th place finish in Transition 10-13.  She placed well in qualifiers, securing her spot on front row of the final and achieved her goal with an 11th place finish.  She slipped to third in Transition Girls but is determined to bounce back.

KSR would like to thank their fans, team members and partners for their support. Current team sponsors include: Lucas Oil, Off Road Vixens, Caliber Products, Gamma Powersports, Choko Design, Backwoods Promotions, Back Country Photography & Design, Stevens Insulation Services, Bailey Motorsports and HB Cycle.

Successful Weekend for Karkoulas Sisters Racing at Snowcross Season Opener

Team Brings Home Multiple Top Finishes in Rouyn-Noranda

Oakwood, ON (January 18, 2016) – The Grand Prix International Snowcross in Rouyn-Noranda, QC was an action packed weekend for Karkoulas Sisters Racing (KSR) fans, racers and partners. The weekend marked the first event of the Canadian Snowcross Racing Association (CSRA) schedule, and drew thousands of fans to the track for fast-paced, ski to ski racing.

Racers Brooklyn (11), Dakota (9), and Zoe (6) were eager to get out on the track after waiting what felt like an eternity to return. Sunday was a frigid day, but by midday the sun was shining and the tinted goggles were out for beautiful race weather.

Dakota took some time adjusting to a larger snowmobile this year, a Ski-Doo MXZ 600 Sport, but quickly found her groove. By Sunday, she was comfortable on the No. 501 race sled and was second off the line in a Transition Girls heat. She held on to that position until her sister, Brooklyn, racing the No. 500 Ski-Doo 600RS, took her place with them both grasping position two and three in that heat.

Zoe experienced some difficulties going wide in the first corner but conquered this by Sunday with great heat finishes on the No. 502 Polaris Indy 120. She finished second overall in Stock 1 on Saturday, and first in Stock 1 on Sunday, while placing seventh and fifth in Stock 2 division.

Dakota raced hard all weekend, proving she can handle a larger sled, ultimately finishing fifth (Saturday) and fourth (Sunday) in Transition Girls, and eighth and 10th in Novice A class.

Brooklyn battled both days, finishing second in Transition Girls heats with the exception of one 3rd on Saturday. Unfortunately in the final Transition 8-13 race on Sunday, she was hit from the back by a few sleds which slowed her down a bit. She managed to move up quickly from the back of the pack, finishing Transition 8-13 in 11th place. She finished Transition Girls in third (Saturday) and second (Sunday).

Dayco National Finals

Well April 11th and 12th marked the end of a successful race season for the KSR team. Racing  the Dayco National Finals at Horseshoe Resort, warm temperatures and bright sunshine set a relaxed tone on the track for the girls.  Point races went on the back-burner and the girls went out with the goal of having fun and enjoying the last weekend on their sleds.  Having said that, the sun wasn’t the only thing hot.  The girls stuck to their competitive natures and brought some heat of their own.

Zoe had great heats both days with top 2 finishes, but, unfortunately her sled just did not like the wet, loose snow conditions found in the afternoon finals.  Much to her dismay, she found herself stuck on the hills relying on the flag men to help her conquer the slope.  Never- the-less; she had a great time and is constantly telling her dad to make her sled faster.  Perhaps she will be better suited for Stock 2 next year.

Dakota has consistently brought out her best the last half of the season and this weekend was no exception.  She earned top 3 in all heats and was over the moon with her first ever 1st place finish in the Stock 2 final on Saturday. A31Q5490 (1) On Sunday she rode hard but unfortunately her sled just wouldn’t press above 16 mph on the loose track conditions.  She ended up with a solid 5th place position in the final.

Brooklyn had her best weekend all season at Horseshoe. With nothing to lose, she went out with a clear mind and a smile on her face.  Horseshoe is always her favorite track and this year was no exception.  She pinned the throttle on both her Freestyle and her Phantom 250cc the entire time and caught some air.  She rode smooth with no incidents.  Frustratingly, her 250cc just didn’t want to push the course as hard as she wanted to, so Dad found himself spending a good portion of Saturday night in the trailer swapping parts between her two Phantoms.  Well, thanks Dad. It paid off!  Brooklyn achieved her first  1st overall Novice 250cc result this season with clean, fair races on Sunday.  She was absolutely thrilled with the result and is ecstatic to pick up her 1st place plaque at the awards ceremony next month.

With Horseshoe being the final race, points were tallied and KSR has delivered.  Brooklyn will bring home a 3rd overall in Novice 250, 2nd overall in Novice girls and lastly, a 6th in Novice A.  The 120’s have also been a success.  Dakota will acquire a 3rd place trophy in Stock 2 and Zoe will bring home a 4th overall in Stock 1 (pretty impressive having missed a race due to extreme cold in Quebec).  Way to go girls!

So for the 2014/2015 season….that’s a wrap!
